Why Most Chesapeake Kitchens Get Quartz
Quartz countertops are a popular first choice in Chesapeake kitchens, and for good reason. Engineered quartz is roughly nine parts crushed natural quartz to one part resin and pigment, pressed and cured into slabs. The resin makes it non-porous, so coffee, wine, cooking oil and hard water spots stay on the surface and wipe off. There is no sealing schedule, which matters if you would rather not think about your counters again, or if you are handing the house to tenants.
Choosing a brand and color
Quartz is sold by brand and color collection. Caesarstone, Silestone, Cambria, MSI Q and Hanstone are among the brands you will see. Plain whites and grays are the least expensive; marble-look designs with long, through-body veining cost more. Angi's 2026 guide breaks quartz material into grades: builder's grade (second choice) at $50 to $60 per square foot, commercial grade at $60 to $80, and first-choice slabs at $80 to over $100. We bring samples to the estimate and can show full-slab photos so you can see how the veining runs, not just a 4-inch chip.
Where quartz has limits
Quartz is not the right answer everywhere. The resin can scorch or discolor under a hot pan, and Caesarstone's residential warranty excludes damage from excessive heat and thermal shock, so trivets are part of owning quartz. Many brands also do not cover indoor quartz used outdoors, because sunlight can fade or yellow the resin over time. Caesarstone, for example, excludes outdoor installations from its indoor warranty and sells a separate outdoor line. For a sunny patio kitchen we steer people to granite or an outdoor-rated product instead.
Warranties depend on who fabricates it
Manufacturer warranties on quartz are often long, but they come with conditions. Caesarstone's residential limited lifetime warranty applies only to owner-occupied homes and only when the slab was fabricated and installed by a Caesarstone Certified Fabricator, and it excludes failures from fabrication or installation errors, inadequate support and uneven cabinets. A rental property is treated as commercial use under that warranty. If warranty coverage matters to you, we go over the terms for the brand you pick before you order, so you know what is and is not covered.
Thickness, edges and seams
Most kitchen quartz is 3 cm (about 1 1/4 inches) thick; 2 cm is common in bathrooms and sometimes used in kitchens with a built-up edge. Angi lists a standard edge as included in most quotes, with custom profiles such as full bullnose or ogee costing more. Slabs come in fixed sizes, so a long L-shaped kitchen or a large island may need a seam. We plan seams where they are least visible and away from the sink and dishwasher, and you approve the layout before we cut.
Quartz for rentals and PCS moves
In a market with as many military households as Hampton Roads, plenty of owners are preparing a house to sell or rent before orders take them elsewhere. A neutral mid-grade quartz is a practical choice: it holds up to tenants, needs no maintenance between leases and looks current in listing photos. Tell us your timeline and we will lay out the dates for template and install.
Caring for quartz
Warm water and mild dish soap handle daily cleaning. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive pads and strong solvents, since unapproved cleaners can damage the resin and can void a manufacturer warranty. Use cutting boards and trivets. That is the whole maintenance routine.

Quartz Countertops Questions
How much do quartz countertops cost in Chesapeake?
National guides put quartz at about $50 to $200 per square foot installed, and HomeGuide lists an average 30 to 40 square foot kitchen at $1,500 to $8,000. Color, brand and edge make the biggest difference. We give a written price after measuring.
Does quartz need to be sealed?
No. Engineered quartz is non-porous because of its resin binder. Using a sealer or an unapproved cleaner can actually leave residue and may void a manufacturer warranty.
Can I put a hot pan on quartz?
You should not. The resin can scorch or discolor, and manufacturer warranties such as Caesarstone's exclude heat damage and thermal shock. Use a trivet.
Is quartz good for a rental property?
It is a strong choice because it resists stains and needs no sealing between tenants. Note that some brand warranties treat rentals as commercial use, which can limit coverage.
Which quartz brands can you install?
We work with widely available brands such as Caesarstone, Silestone, Cambria and MSI Q. Availability and warranty conditions differ by brand, and we go over both when you choose.
